Singer claims trolling crossed the line after his light-hearted jab at Kohli's Instagram activity triggered backlash. Rahul Vaidya being a singer and television personality is now gaining popularity because of his participation in the culinary reality show Laughter Chefs 2, has found himself embroiled in an unanticipated scandal because of his remarks against Indian cricket player Virat Kohli, not because of his culinary prowess. Fans have responded strongly to what began as a humorous online comment, which has now escalated into a full-fledged social media crisis and put Vaidya on the defense.
The controversy stems from a viral Instagram post by actress and influencer Avneet Kaur, which featured a bold photo that received a "like" from Virat Kohli's official handle. The exchange quickly caught the attention of fans, sparking a flurry of internet debates, memes, and even wild speculation.
Kohli clarified on his Instagram story that the "algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction" as he was cleaning off his page, putting an end to the rumors. He requested fans not to jump to conclusions, emphasizing there was no intent behind the action.
Shortly after Kohli's statement, Rahul Vaidya released a video mimicking the cricketer's explanation, suggesting - in a playful tone - that from now on, people shouldn't hold him responsible if Instagram starts liking photos on his behalf.
While the video was clearly meant as satire, it didn't sit well with many of Kohli's loyal supporters. What followed was a barrage of trolling aimed not just at Vaidya, but also at his wife, actress Disha Parmar, and other family members.
"After I commented on Virat Kohli, my wife, Disha Parmar, got trolled and my family was abused," Rahul told reporters when approached at the airport. "The kind of language used against my family is just not acceptable. It was a joke. I didn't expect things to turn this ugly."
Adding more fuel to the fire, Vaidya revealed that Kohli had blocked him on Instagram after the incident - a move he didn't expect but also didn't back down from addressing publicly.
"I didn't use any bad language. I'm a fan of cricket, I just made a light-hearted comment," Rahul said. "But if he blocked me, there will be a reply to that."
When questioned about whether Kohli had personally said anything to him, Vaidya clarified that it was the fans who lashed out, not the cricketer himself. But in a scathing rejoinder, he didn't mince words:
"Unke fans ne gaali di. That's why I said - his fans are bigger jokers than him."
The interaction has spurred more extensive online discussions about public scrutiny, celebrity culture, and how, in the era of social media, even seemingly innocuous jokes can go too far.
