The 2025 IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium ended suddenly on May 5, 2025, due to heavy rain and it forced the game to be stoped at midway. The weather ultimately decided that SRH would not be able to chase because of rain, even though DC managed 133/7 in their 20 overs. By sharing a point, a single point give hopes to DC teams and eliminated SRH from playoff competition.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins made an instant impact, bowling the very first over of the match. With Mohammed Shami left out. A textbook back-of-a-length ball in the corridor saw Karun Nair nick off for a duck, leaving DC 0/1.
Cummins bowled 19 balls and took three top-order wickets, with Ishan Kishan, keeping for the first time this season, taking three catches. The SRH bowlers dismantled the DC top order, reducing them to 29 for 5 inside eight overs. Jaydev Unadkat joined the party by removing KL Rahul, the ball straightening just enough to take the edge.
As wickets fell, Tristan Stubbs tried to rebuild with Vipraj Nigam. The duo put on 33 runs off 30 balls, though not without drama. Then came the chaos-Stubbs turned for a second run that Vipraj didn't want. Both ended up at the striker's end, and in a rare selfless act of Vipraj, he stepped out of his crease, sacrificing his wicket to keep Stubbs at the crease.
At 62/6, DC brought in Ashutosh Sharma as the Impact Player, subbing out Abishek Porel.
Ashutosh's arrival injected life into the innings. He scored a quickfire 30 off 17 balls, lifting DC past 100. In the 17th over, he hammered two stylish boundaries off Harshal Patel-a powerful punch over backward point and a cheeky chip over mid-off.
Stubbs, too, shifted gears late in the innings. From a slow 26 off 29, he accelerated in the 18th over, hitting Eshan Malinga for two boundaries to move to 35 off 32. He finished unbeaten on 41 off 36 balls, anchoring the DC innings alongside Ashutosh, who also struck three sixes. Their efforts lifted DC to 133/7, scoring 61 runs in the last 6 overs.
Just as SRH was preparing to begin their chase, rain set in. Despite the best efforts of ground staff and multiple inspections, the weather didn't relent. The match was officially abandoned, and both teams were awarded one point.
DC: 133/7 in 20 overs (Stubbs 41*, Ashutosh 41, Cummins 3/19)
Match abandoned due to rain – No second innings
