Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) campaign in the 2025 Indian Premier League came to an early end on Monday, as their must-win game against Delhi Capitals was abandoned due to rain. With only three wins from 11 games, SRH are now officially out of playoff contention. Head coach Daniel Vettori expressed his frustration over a season filled with inconsistency, attributing much of their struggles to the unpredictable playing conditions at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Speaking after the washout, Vettori said, “We had a frustrating season with a lot of highs and lows. The pitches didn't play the way we expected them to. Last year, there were several high-scoring games here, but this season, the conditions have been much more favorable for fast bowlers, particularly with the new ball.”
Hyderabad hosted six games this season, but only four innings saw teams crossing the 200-run mark—a stark contrast to IPL 2024, where that number was nearly double. Vettori emphasized that the batting-friendly pitches of the previous season were largely absent, forcing his team to abandon their usual aggressive style.
“Our players want to play attacking cricket, but this year it was about adapting on the fly,” he noted. “Some pitches were good for batting, but most aided seamers early on. It made it tough for our top order to settle or go big.”
SRH appeared to be in control against Delhi, with captain Pat Cummins leading from the front by claiming 3 for 19 and reducing DC to 29 for 5. However, a fightback from Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma was cut short by rain, and the match was called off after the first innings, with points shared.
The result left SRH eighth in the standings with just 7 points, while DC climbed to fifth with 13. “We had hoped today would be a turning point,” Vettori lamented. “Unfortunately, like much of this season, things didn't go our way.”
