Sri Lanka has announced a well-rounded 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, which will take place from July 2 to July 8, 2025. The first two encounters will be held at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, with the final match set for July 8 at the scenic Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
Charith Asalanka will lead the Sri Lankan squad in this home series, continuing in the role he has performed with consistency over the past year. After a range of performances across forms, Sri Lanka hopes to recover well under his direction. Asalanka will also carry the responsibility of anchoring the batting unit in a side that blends youth with experience.
Among the most notable selections are the spin twins Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. Both had productive IPL 2025 seasons with the Rajasthan Royals, and their presence gives the bowling attack a significant boost in firepower. Hasaranga in particular has been playing exceptionally well; in 2024, he was crowned Sri Lanka's top bowler in both ODI and T20I. He also emerged as the highest wicket-taker in ODIs globally last year.
Returning to the squad is left-arm quick Dilshan Madushanka, who missed the Australia series in February due to injury. Fit again, he replaces Lahiru Kumara and is expected to add variety and pace to the attack.
Wicketkeeper-batter Sadeera Samarawickrama has been recalled after a fruitful run with Sri Lanka A, where he scored 197 runs in four innings, including a century and a fifty. He replaces Nuwanidu Fernando and is likely to strengthen the middle order. Meanwhile, all-rounder Milan Rathnayake, although uncapped in white-ball cricket, finds a place in the squad. His inclusion is subject to fitness as he recovers from a side strain.
In addition to Hasaranga and Theekshana, the spin department includes left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage and leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Asitha Fernando and IPL 2025 breakout star Eshan Malinga, who made an impression with Sunrisers Hyderabad, lead the pace attack. Their combined background gives Sri Lanka's bowling unit a dynamic edge.
