The Asia Cup This is the 17th edition of the T20I tournament which is set to be hosted by the Asian Cricket Council. The first Asia Cup was held in 1984 and it has become one of the most respected cricket tournaments with millions of fans around the world. India, which is known for cricketing superpower, is the most successful team in the history of the tournament, winning the title eight times.
There are eight teams participating in the competitionthis season. Five are full member nations of the ACC (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) and three others (UAE, Oman and Hong Kong) qualified from the ACC Premier Cup 2024. Matches will take place across two cities: Dubai, where 11 games will be played, and Abu Dhabi, where 8 will take place.
Format-wise, the eight teams will be divided into two groups. The top two sides from each group will qualify for the Super Four stage, with the top two from that making the final. The possibility of India versus Pakistan meeting thrice, atleast twice will be a marquee attraction as the arch-rivals are clubbed in Group A with qualifier Hong Kong being the third team.
The competition itself gets underway on September 9 with 19 T20 matches crammed into 20 days, leading to the final in Dubai on September 28.
India will play the hosts UAE on September 10 and then the arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in what will be the biggest distortion of the competition. The Super Four stage will follow with the final scheduled for the evening of September 28 (Dubai time). Based on the timetable released by Ascores, all games are scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 PM (IST), making it a prime-time affair for the fans.
