The Indian Premier League 2025 season reaches a critical juncture as Gujarat Titans (GT) lock horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator on May 30 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium.
Both sides are brimming with talent and have had fluctuating form recently. In their final league game, the Gujarat Titans, who finished third in the points table, were decisively beaten by the Chennai Super Kings by 83 runs. Even though GT was chasing a massive 230-run goal, they all are out at 147 in 18.3 overs.
The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, finished in fourth place despite an uneven set of results, winning two and losing three of their previous five games. Punjab Kings defeated MI in their most recent league game, easily chasing down 185.
Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium's surface has shown itself to be favorable to batting, particularly when lighted. Scores above 180 have been common here, but spinners do get grip in the middle overs. Chasing has been slightly easier due to dew, which makes the toss crucial.
Shubman Gill (GT):
Gill, one of the most reliable hitters in the competition, has scored 2,448 runs in 59 IPL games since 2022. His 47.07 average and near 150 strike rate are clear indicators of his match-winning capabilities, with four centuries and 16 fifties to his name.
Jasprit Bumrah (MI):
The seasoned campaigner leads MI's attack. With 185 wickets in 146 matches, Bumrah's economy of 7.24 and average of 21.88 make him a threat with the new ball and at the death. His experience will be vital for MI.
Gujarat Titans have no fresh injury concerns. However, Sherfane Rutherford may be replaced due to struggles against wide yorkers, with Glenn Phillips being a likely replacement. Arshad Khan could make way for Washington Sundar to provide variety in spin. Mohammed Siraj, despite an average outing, is likely to retain his place.
Mumbai Indians appear set to field a full-strength XI, with no injuries reported ahead of this knockout clash.
Both sides have the firepower to dominate. The Gujarat Titans have depth in both areas that is bowling and bating, but they must recover quickly from their most recent setback. Mumbai Indians carry experience and match-winners in Bumrah and SKY, but inconsistency remains a concern.
The team winning the toss is expected to bowl first, given the dew factor and chasing-friendly conditions.
Today match win prediction: Gujarat Titans to win
Why? Greater consistency in top-order batting and a balanced bowling attack make GT slight favorites despite MI’s star power. Anticipate a close race in which Rashid Khan and Gill will play important roles.
