Pakistan and Bangladesh are all set to reignite their T20I rivalry in a three-match series beginning Wednesday, May 28, at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. This marks the venue's first T20I action since a full-scale renovation earlier this year. The matches will begin at 8:00 PM local time, with the toss scheduled for 7:30 PM under the stadium's refreshed floodlights.
The second T20I will take place on May 30 (Friday), and the final clash is scheduled for June 1 (Saturday), concluding what promises to be a gripping series under the Lahore night sky.
Pakistan will be led by middle-order batter Salman Ali Agha, who praised the squad's morale and emphasized the confidence brought by standout performances in the recently concluded PSL. "We're taking that form into this series and expecting a strong challenge from Bangladesh," he stated.
On the other side, Litton Das, now leading Bangladesh in T20Is, called the series a "valuable opportunity" to test combinations ahead of next year's World Cup. Despite a recent 2-1 loss to UAE, he believes the team is focused and ready.
Pakistan has always had the advantage. The home team has won three of the four Twenty20 Internationals played in Pakistan, while one was rained out. In their five previous bilateral series, Pakistan have triumphed in four, with Bangladesh's only series win dating back to 2015.
Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Babar Azam are not playing for Pakistan because they have rested. However, the squad sees returns for Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, and Naseem Shah. Notable call-ups include Hasan Ali and Sahibzada Farhan, based on strong PSL outings.
Bangladesh are dealing with injuries to Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, and Taskin Ahmed. Nevertheless, they'll rely on Shaun Tait, their new fast-bowling coach, to guide a fresh pace attack.
