Suryakumar Yadav Sets New Record for Mumbai Indians, Smashes 15-Year IPL Landmark

The Mumbai Indians' strong batter Suryakumar Yadav has left a permanent mark on IPL history by bearking the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's 15-year record and becoming the team's top run scorer in a single season of IPL.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar scored an amazing 640 runs in 14 games at a blistering strike rate of 168.54, and breaking Tendulkar's long-standing 2010 record of 618 runs in a single season. His consistency and game-winning efforts this season have been beyond any expectation of spectacular. After scoring 605 runs in 2023, this is his second season with 600 or more runs in IPL.

The milestone was achieved during MI's final league game against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, where he notched his sixth fifty of the season. Though MI lost the match by seven wickets, the spotlight remained firmly on Suryakumar's record-breaking performance.

On what can be dubbed a "Super Monday" for the India T20I skipper, Suryakumar not only surpassed Tendulkar's tally but also broke Sanath Jayasuriya's record of most sixes in a single season for MI. With 32 sixes under his belt, he eclipsed Jayasuriya's 31 from 2008. He surpasses the other players like MI power hitters like Hardik Pandya (29 in 2019), Kieron Pollard (29 in 2013), and Ishan Kishan (30 in 2020) with this outstanding hitting performance.

For young players, Suryakumar also set a new benchmark. His record for the most 25+ scores in a single IPL season was set after he scored in 14 of 14 games. Suryakumar's remarkable consistency throughout the IPL 2025 season saw him surpass the previous best of 13 scores of 25 or more in a single edition, a record jointly held by Kane Williamson (2018) and Shubman Gill (2023).  Notably, he also became the first cricketer in T20 history to score 25+ runs in 14 consecutive innings, surpassing South Africa's Temba Bavuma.

Suryakumar has a fantastic chance to surpass 700 runs with coming matches, an achievement only accomplished by Indian talents Shubman Gill (2023) and Virat Kohli (2016, 2024). If he succeeds, he will not only elevate his individual records but also boost MI's championship hopes.

Suryakumar Yadav's blistering form, record-breaking attacks, and unwavering supremacy with the bat have solidified his status as the Mumbai Indians' contemporary legend in what has been a season to remember.
