PSL to Resume on May 17 in Pakistan - PCB Confirms Revised Schedule After Security-Related Suspension

The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 calendar has been updated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which confirms that the competition will commence on May 17 and end with the final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on May 25.

Pakistan Super League

Due to unforeseen security concerns near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the HBL Pakistan Super League was temporarily suspended on May 8. In response, the PCB swiftly postponed the tournament and facilitated the safe return of all 37 overseas players via chartered flights.

With conditions now stabilized, the PCB has finalized a revised schedule for the remainder of the league. The four remaining group-stage fixtures are set to take place in Rawalpindi, while the playoffs and final will be hosted in Lahore under enhanced security protocols.

Updated Fixtures Overview

  • May 17: Peshawar Zalmi vs Karachi Kings at Rawalpindi

  • May 18 (Afternoon): Quetta Gladiators vs Multan Sultans at Rawalpindi

  • May 18 (Evening): Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi at Rawalpindi

  • May 19: Islamabad United vs Karachi Kings at Rawalpindi

  • May 21-24: Playoffs at Lahore

  • May 25: Final at Lahore

With 13 points as the league restarts, the Quetta Gladiators are leading the standings and have already guaranteed a postseason berth. The remaining matches will be decisive for Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United, all competing for the final qualification slots.

Although Karachi Kings captain David Warner has confirmed his return to Pakistan for the remaining matches, there are lingering doubts regarding the participation of some foreign players, especially those from New Zealand. Despite assurances of maximum security by both the PCB and local authorities, some overseas cricketers are reportedly hesitant to travel back.

To minimize any disruptions, the PCB is reportedly in talks with foreign boards and players' agents. In case of player withdrawals, teams may be permitted to name replacements for the remaining games.

The Pakistan vs. Bangladesh T20I series, which was scheduled to start on May 25 in Faisalabad, now conflicts with the PSL's postponement. Changes to the international series are needed because that fixture now conflicts with the PSL final.

Greater Regional Effects:

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also been temporarily halted due to the same situation. On May 17, the same day as the PSL, the IPL is expected to restart.

Notwithstanding the difficulties, the PCB is certain that the updated strategy would enable a thrilling and safe end to the competition, which is still one of the top domestic leagues in cricket worldwide.
