Neutral venues take centre stage as BCCI releases revised schedule. The BCCI confirmed on Monday night that the IPL 2025 season will resume on May 17 with the final slated for June 3, following a brief halt due to cross-border tensions. Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad will host the remaining games, removing some clubs' customary home advantage.
The revised schedule, prompted by regional security concerns, will see 17 matches played - 13 league games and four playoff matches. Notably, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad will not play any more matches at their original home grounds. Of the three, only PBKS remain in playoff contention, making the loss of home support a potential blow to their campaign.
PBKS vs DC, which was abandoned midway on May 8 in Dharamsala, will now be replayed on May 24 in Jaipur, the team's temporary base.
PBKS will also face MI on May 26 in Jaipur, a game previously scheduled for Dharamsala.
The tournament resumes with RCB vs KKR on May 17 in Bengaluru. Two Sunday double-headers are scheduled:
May 18: RR vs PBKS (3:30 PM IST, Jaipur), DC vs GT (7:30 PM IST, Delhi)
May 25: GT vs CSK (3:30 PM IST, Ahmedabad), SRH vs KKR (7:30 PM IST, Delhi)
Qualifier 1 – May 29
Eliminator – May 30
Qualifier 2 – June 1
Final – June 3

The last league fixture, LSG vs RCB, will be held on May 27 in Lucknow.
The late-season resumption creates scheduling conflicts with international commitments. The West Indies tour of England (May 29 – June 3) overlaps with the IPL playoffs, affecting players like Romario Shepherd (RCB), Shamar Joseph (LSG) and Sherfane Rutherford (GT).
Likewise, several England players in IPL contention may have to exit early based on squad announcements, including:
Jos Buttler (GT)
Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell (RCB)
Will Jacks, Reece Topley (MI)
The IPL final now finishes just seven days before the WTC final, which starts on June 11 at Lord's. Players such as Cummins, Head, Starc, Hazlewood, Rabada, and Markram may face tight transitions from T20 to red-ball cricket.
India's fringe Test players may also be unavailable for the India A tour of England, which begins May 30, overlapping with IPL playoff week.
Now that players from abroad are coming home, teams must deal with the difficulty of reassembling their teams. Only Buttler and Coetzee had departed camp, making GT, the current table-toppers, seem to be the least impacted. MI gains more time to regroup as a result of their May 21 first game being postponed.
