As of May 13th, 2025, there has been no update on Rohit's knee injury from MI and the BCCI. However, after missing matches because of his injury he continued to play and recently he scored 53 against Rajastan Royals on 1st of May and 7 against Gurjrat Titans on 6th of May. Since MI's playoff season has already commenced, his inclusion in the rest of the games depends on evaluation by the medical staff.

While independent of his knee issue, this step underlined his resolve to preserve his fitness for limited-overs cricket, with the 2027 ODI World Cup in sight. Rohit Sharma was not able to join the IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants on 4th of April because of a knee injury. He was struck on the knee in a nets session. He attempted to bat ahead of the match versus Lucknow Super Giants but was unable to put any weight on. A fitness test revealed pain and the Head coach of Mumbai Indians Mahela Jayawardane confirmed the injury, so it was decided to rest him.
