The Indian Premier League (IPL) is worldwide famous for its explosiveness and the enthusiasm it brings out in people but this famous league is not all about high-scoring and big-hitting matches, it also rewards the bowlers for their excellence in wicket-taking. The Purple Cap is one of the most prestigious awards in the tournament, given to the best wicket-taker of the year.
Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler who has taken the maximum number of wickets in a season in the IPL. Introduced in 2008, it highlights the tournament's biggest ball-sport performer. Worn on the ground by the most wicket-taker in IPL matches, it denotes their supremacy. Some other winners include the legends Dwayne Bravo (32 wickets in 2013), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (two times), and Kagiso Rabada (30 wickets in 2020).
Wicket-Taking Priority: The top wicket-taker is awarded the cap.
Tiebreaker: If two bowlers are level on wickets, the one with a better economy rate takes priority over the other.
In-Season Transfers: If a bowler is injured, suspended, or withdraws from the tournament, the cap is passed to the next available player.
Final Award: The cap is actually awarded to the season's top wicket-taker once the final match is played.
