Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Breaks Records with 35-ball IPL Century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, became the youngest-ever centurion in men's T20 cricket when he hammered a century off of 35 balls for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.

After Chris Gayle's 30-ball century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013, it was the second-fastest century in IPL history.

In addition, Suryavanshi beat Yusuf Pathan's 37-ball century in 2010 to become the fastest Indian to reach a century in the IPL.

Suryavanshi scored 101 off just 38 balls to start the chase of 210, with 94 of his runs going through boundaries.

He tied the record for the most sixes an Indian has hit in an IPL innings with 11 during the innings.

After hitting 30 runs in an over off rookie Karim Janat, Suryavanshi reached his century by hitting Rashid Khan for six.

Soon after hitting the milestone, he was bowled by Prasidh Krishna, but his early attack had already given the Rajasthan Royals total control.

Gujarat Titans posted 209 for 6, riding on contributions from David Miller and Rahul Tewatia.

In reply, Rajasthan Royals chased down the target with ease, winning by eight wickets and with 25 balls to spare.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 70 off 40 balls, guiding RR home along with captain Riyan Parag.

Suryavanshi was drafted into the Rajasthan Royals XI after regular captain Sanju Samson was ruled out with an abdominal injury.

Before his IPL breakthrough, Suryavanshi had already made headlines with a 58-ball century in youth Tests against Australia U-19s and an unbeaten triple-century at the Under-19 level in Bihar.

RR had picked him for ₹1.10 crore at the IPL 2024 mega auction after spotting his talent at their High-Performance Centre.

"It feels really good. It was my first century in the IPL. It's like a dream," Suryavanshi said after being named Player of the Match.

"I just focus on the ball, not the bowler. Batting with Jaiswal makes it easy because he keeps talking positively," he added.

Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour praised the youngster's natural power.

"He's got a great downswing, which allows him to generate this kind of power. We've seen it in the nets against bowlers like Jofra Archer. To do it in a match like this shows how special he is," Rathour said.

Captain Riyan Parag was equally impressed. "We always knew what he could do, but for a 14-year-old to perform like this under pressure is unbelievable," Parag said.

What's Next? In the absence of Samson, Suryavanshi is anticipated to remain at the top of the order for RR following his record-breaking innings.

his explosive batting and fearless approach, he has quickly established himself as one of the biggest talking points of IPL 2025.
