England Women are playing India Women in the first ODI at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, on July 16, 2025. This game kicks off India's tour, and both teams are super keen to win. England’s T20 form has been a bit up and down recently (W-L-W-L-L), even with their close five-wicket win on July 12. India just won the T20 series 3-2 (L-W-L-W-W), so they might have a bit of a mental advantage in the ODIs, having won four of their last five games against England. England's strong batting lineup, with players like Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, will really be tested by India's strong spin bowling.
The Rose Bowl usually helps batters, but fast bowlers might get some swing early on. Spin bowlers will do better as the ball gets older. Usually, ODI scores are around 270–300. Lately, teams have wanted to bat second, but if it's wet in the morning, the captain might choose to bowl first. Expect some rain (24°C, 61% humidity), likely slowing the outfield.

Amy Jones (England's Best Batter): She's been killing it, averaging 87.4 in her last nine games. Her batting style is going to be important facing India's spin bowlers.
Sophie Ecclestone (England's Best Bowler): This left-arm spinner has grabbed 12 wickets in six games and is great in the middle overs and will target India's middle order.
Smriti Mandhana (India's Impact Player): is on fire! She has scored 570 runs at 57.0 in her last 10 games. Her face-off with Ecclestone could decide who wins.
Deepti Sharma (India's Best Bowler): She doesn't give up easy runs (just 4.15 per over) and has 20 wickets. She is a real problem for England's hitters who like to attack.
India's got a small advantage (55-45) because they're better at ODIs and have good spinners. Still, England's at home and Ecclestone's in form, making it close. Watch out for Jones against Deepti, and Mandhana against Lauren Filer's speed. If England's first batters do well early, they could score big.
Experts say India's spinners (Deepti, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav) could win games, but don't count out England's new fast bowlers (Filer, Bell). India needs Mandhana and Harleen Deol to start strong. England should bowl at Deepti's off-stump to mess with her.
The captain who wins the toss will probably choose to bowl first to use the morning moisture. If it might rain, batting second and using DLS is smart.
England bat first: 270–300
India bat first: 280–310
India should win by around 25-40 runs or by 4 wickets. India's spin team and Mandhana playing well should give them the edge. I'm guessing Deepti Sharma will be the star player (3 wickets and 40 runs). For England to win, Jones and Ecclestone need to step up big time.
