England vs India 3rd Test Preview: England and India are hitting Lord's on July 10, 2025, for the big 3rd Test. Right now, it's tied 1-1. India crushed England by 336 runs at Edgbaston (July 2), but England squeezed out a 5-wicket win at Trent Bridge (June 20). England's been on a roll with four wins in their last five Tests, plus they totally dominated West Indies. India's coming in hot too, with four wins in five, and they just snagged the ICC Champions Trophy. Lord's is gonna be a tough one, so look out for England's killer swing bowlers going up against India's awesome spinners.
They've split their last three games. India killed it in the 2nd Test (587/10 declared) thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal's crazy 189 and Jasprit Bumrah's 6/85. England fought back at Trent Bridge with Joe Root's 142 and Chris Woakes' 4/81. Historically, England's got the edge at home (51-35 in Tests), but India's been on fire lately with Rohit Sharma, so it could go either way.
Joe Root (England Batter): He's the main guy in England's lineup, averaging almost 59 in home Tests since 2023. He's gotta handle Bumrah's reverse swing.
Ben Stokes (England All-Rounder): Captain Stokes can change the game with his hitting and clutch bowling (12 wickets in 2025).
Jasprit Bumrah (India Bowler): Fresh off a 10-wicket game at Edgbaston, his skills will challenge England's batsmen. He got 23 wickets in 3 Tests.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (India Batter): This guy smashed 189 in the 2nd Test! It will be interesting to see how he deals with England's attack - Archer and Bashir.
Ravindra Jadeja (India All-Rounder): He's dangerous with both bat and ball (22 wickets and 412 runs in 2025). His Lord's experience makes him a key player.
Weather: It's gonna be sunny all day, with temps from 18°C in the morning to 27°C in the afternoon. No clouds or rain in sight.
Pitch: The Lord's pitch looks green, so the fast bowlers will get some early movement. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak thinks scores will be low at first, but the pitch should get easier to bat on by Day 2. Spinners might be a factor later in the game.
India's got a slight edge (52%) over England (48%). England's got home field advantage and the Root-Stokes duo, but India's got a well good attack (Bumrah, Siraj, Jadeja) and Jaiswal ready to hit some runs. If England's batsmen can survive Bumrah's first attack, they might score 300+ and use Bashir's spin to their advantage.
England's Plan: The openers, Crawley and Duckett, have to block Bumrah's deliveries, and Stokes will aggressively move the fielders.
India's Plan: Jaiswal and Gill need to start strong, and Pant needs to be aggressive (high strike rate) to mess with England's bowlers. Bumrah and Jadeja need to make the most of Lord's pitch.
The captain who wins the toss might choose to bowl first to take advantage of the pitch, but batting first still gives advantage.
England Batting First: 280–310
India Batting First: 300–330
India will win with 4 wickets. Bumrah and Jadeja has the skill for India to take this one.
